On Thursday last week we got a new puppy.

She is a Border collie, mainly black with white socks, only 8 weeks old and just gorgeous!

We haven't had a dog for a few years and I had forgotten how much a pet can cheer you up. Oh my goodness, she has been chewing everything in sight but it only took her a day to become house-trained. I was amazed but then collies are highly intelligent.

Anyway, I'm being kept very busy here! Almost wish I could give her some valium! No not really!

Oh gosh, I almost forgot to say she does have a rather fond liking for our chickens! But she is learning already what she can and can't do.

She sounds like a beautiful dog, peg. I hope you have many years of fun with her. Post some pics when you can. I'd love to see her.

She sure is!

I haven't worked out how to put photos on here yet. I will work it out when I have the time.

She is called Rosie and knows her name already! I can't believe the difference she has made to the family, a little bundle of joy! I can't wait to take her for a walk but have got to wait a while due to the vaccinations.

That sounds so cute
Pets really do bring a special kind of hapiness in people's lives
So I never quite get why people wouldn't want a pet

Though props to you for being patient enough for a puppy!
I've puppysat alot before and even though they're cute they require alot of time and attention. (I'm used to cats who pretty much do their own thing when they aren't being particularly social)
Thanks for this!

Congrats on your puppy. I love mine to death. He is so therapeutic for me. My docs recommended that I get him for my anxiety.

Your puppy sounds gorgeous Pegasus and very intelligent, be sure you keep her brain occupied or she'll soon be causing trouble!

She really is intelligent! She has a passion for my son's skateboard and gets on it and starts pushing it along with two legs!

So happy you are enjoying your puppy. And your right they do help your mood.

Slurppy our dog was smart enough to know that she had to be in the kitchen when we returned home. She would return there from the living room sofa when she heard the car pull in the driveway.

Ours likes to grab his tale and then either run around in circles or roll around on the floor with his tale still in his mouth.

He "hides" his bones in the house by putting them either in the couch or under clothes to be hidden. Then he barks at the clothing or furniture b/c he can't get his bone.

Congrats...I recently got a new puppy too (my third) and they are such a blessing. It's the only happiness I receive on most days and if it weren't for them I'd be much much worse.

Rosie our Border Collie is coming up to 12 weeks now. She is mainly black in colour with white paws and a white stripe that goes down her chest, kinda like a skunk!

She really is a bundle of joy and so clever. She has learnt to do all her 'business' outside already. Just got the most wonderful temperament, when she wags her tail, her whole body moves!

I can't wait till Saturday as that is the day we are allowed to start taking her out for proper walks. We are going to take her on the beach and see what she makes of that.

Well, we took our pup for her first proper walk today! We took her for a walk through the woods. She was so good on the lead and then when we let her off she kept coming back to us to check everything was ok. You could see the joy in her steps and the ears were pricked right up! In the woods is a stream which she wasn't sure of at first but when she saw the children in there she joined in too. She was real hungry when we got back home and slept well too!

Tomorrow we are going to try her on the beach.

I love puppies

I really hope you're having a great day with her today. If you take her to the beach, maybe she'll enjoy the fun of digging lol.

When my aunt's dog was a puppy, before he got his jabs he had to be carried everywhere and I was on holiday with my aunt for a week and so carried Ben everywhere ... and even now he's 4, he still prefers being carried by me rather than walking ... only thing is, he's so much heavier he makes my arm muscles cramp if I hold him too long, lolol

I love him so much, I hope you find joy in your own puppy

border collie????

you are a brave soul!!! get her a hobbie..other than your chickens...or better yet teach her to keep your chickens all organized...in a line, a circle, a triangle, etc!

i hadn't had a puppy in a long time until i got the "demon beast" basset hound baby...oh boy....he is keeping me young...he too is very smart..too smart for his own good (and mine)..there is a lot to be said for a dumb dog...my other guy is as dumb as dirt and that is just fine.

good luck!

hi pegasus, i am so happy for you with your lovely new puppy. i've only ever had kitties so i have no idea how wonderful little dogs can be.

i don't mean to be a downer but if any of you are "pray-ers" would you pray for my youngest daughter tina? her two dogs lived at her mom-in-laws home and their doghouse caught fire from a heat lamp they had there and the doggies died. then just to keep things going her brother-in-law got in a wreck and totaled his car and banged himself up too. tina is my last "baby" and when she's hurting, i feel sad too. thanks for your prayers and warm thoughts for her you all really understand. hugs a bunch!!!
