I thought i'd share this cute story with you...

So a good friend of mine has two sweet cats. Both of them are caring and quite receptive (2 of my friend's personality traits). We always thought it had to kinda suck being a small creature in the same old boring apartment year after year.

One day my friend came to me with an idea. She had two small furniture pieces and some spare shelving she wanted to build into a condo for her cats. Then they could have a place of their own. So we put our thinking caps together and came up with a concept.

Being the creative handyman, I got to my pen and paper and sketched a more detailed plan. When we started working on it, both her cats were into our business. They knew something was up.

Over the following month, we spent a few hours here and there working on it... and I'd swear both her cats were walking through the construction area looking up at us like, "What's taking you so long? I wanted this done last week. Is this secure over here? When are you going to be finished?" And they would keep trying to climb the ramp and walk the platform into the nook... just like a typical home-building investor.

Two visits ago, we finished the construction portion and started on the carpeting. It has a more unified look and is pretty cozy now. They love it. When I visit, both her cats typically just brush by to say hi, then go about their business. I didn't think about this until today, but yesterday I went over there and both of them took turns chilling on my lap. One of them spent most of the time I was there chilling on the top of the couch behind my head.

I'm pretty sure they were showing their appreciation for building their condo. I wonder just how much awareness those two creatures have. There aren't too many ways to directly communicate with humans being a cat. But I got their message, and i'll probably add something a little extra to their condo next time I visit.

In conclusion, maybe pets are little people that can't communicate. Maybe their owners need to be more aware of them and attempt to build communication lines. Do something for them. Make something for them instead of buying the same old familiar toys from the store. Maybe they really do know how to communicate. What if we just need to learn how to listen?

Oh but they can! Just not in words.

Ha, I was going to say something like that.

What would a human stuck in a giant box eating the same food every meal say and do?
