I am so mad! I went shopping last night, and there was one bag I forgot to put away. It had three boxes of granola bars in it, and a bunch of new socks.

I slept in this morning because I am nocturnal and I was so tired. The kids said hi to me on their way out, but I wasn't up, or particularly coherent. When I did get up, I found all the granola bar boxes and wrappers chewed up all over the living room. There is nothing left of the granola bars but maybe some crumbs/stains on the carpet. I haven't even looked through the socks for damage, but they just like to carry socks around, not ruin them.

There have been several times that I left a granola bar or two in my bag that I take to work, and the dogs find it and eat it. I live on granola bars a lot of days.

I am so mad! I even thought about that bag briefly after I went to bed, but it was so late and I was so tired (my sleep schedule is way messed up) that I didn't go get that bag. I was so stupid. I should have known better. I feel like hurting myself.

I yelled at the dogs and locked them in the bathroom and have not heard a peep from them in an hour. They know they did wrong, or they would be asking to be let out. I am so mad! Maybe I don't deserve to sleep or eat. Maybe I should have posted this someplace else.

It happens, don't try to work yourself up to much about it... It's just granolabars you can buy new ones. It's alright... Don't be mad at yourself for such a silly mistake.
Take care,

Blue

(((Rapunzel))) I know how frustrating this is! The best dog we ever had had the worst habit, she stole food. It started early on, there was no way to break her of the habit. She has taken a whole Prime Rib resting waiting to be carved (her first major hiest) and served to a house full of guests. She's taken the Christmas Turkey and Easter Ham. She ate an entire pot of stew off of the stove along with fresh baked rolls, a cast iron dutch oven full of pulled bbq pork that took my mother in law over a day to make, an entire cookie sheet full of chicken that was half way off the counter without making it fall, and countless plates full of unwatched meals. My kids grew up saying "guard my food" if they had to leave the table for any reason.

She was able to open a normal fridge unless a whole case of soda was in front of the door. One soda gone, it was enough for her to open the door. My mother thought I was exaggerating and took a soda from the case (the case of the missing ham).

She knew each time she did these things she was naughty, would put herself in her crate downstairs. We tried everything we knew to stop her, nothing worked. Eventually we had to get a side by side fridge and lock her up whenever we ate. But snacks, forget about it, you were on your own.

It was just one of those things where all things were in line for the perfect storm. I'm sorry for your anger and frustration.

(( Rapunzel )) I hope you're feeling better!

When I read the subject of your post I had to snicker a bit, remembering years and years ago when my dog ate an enitre stash of hash, leaving nothing but the foil.
Thanks for this!

Be gentle with yourself and your dogs. Hurting yourself or punishing your dogs will not bring back the granola bars.
Thanks for this!

Thanks, guys. At least it doesn't only happen to me. The kids were amused when they got home, and mentioned that they had noticed the chewed up wrappers before they left this morning, and I told them I had grounded the dogs. My husband asked when he got home if the dogs were "out of the doghouse yet" and I said I let them out, but I'm still not speaking to them.

omg, this made me laugh so hard

Maybe this is a disguised opportunity for a new product for dogs: Granola treat for pups of health-conscious pup owners!

I'm sorry but that was funny.

Rapunzel, I'm so sorry. I'm sure they had time to think about it while in the bathroom.

oh honey don't kick yourself so hard. we all do it. leave something we know we should put away and the dogs get it. I had a dog one time that if I happened to leave my undies on the floor and I left the house I would come home to no crotch in them. same thing with bluejeans! oh how mad I would get!
