Hey gang. Just thought I'd give an update. I had my first appointment with a new psychiatrist today who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders. We're starting with 3 or so one-on-one sessions to go over my history and then I'll be joining a weekly group. I am really excited and also scared about this. I feel like everything in my whole world is about to change and I'm not sure if I'm ready. But I know it's where I have to go. And it's where I want to go. We have a really good connection so far and I have a lot of hope for my recovery today.

Thanks everybody! I think what I like the most about her is that she's so recovery-oriented. She hasn't said as much to me, but I have a friend who went to see her for a few years and she told me that the doctor herself has over 20 years of abstinence from compulsive overeating. That in itself gives me hope.

sounds great. you can learn tools that are invaluable. And then also heal some underlying issues. I have learned some of the tools. But really never addressed the addiction itself. For me it has to be abstinence from specific foods while paying attention to not going through times of extreme starving. i wish I had learned that earlier than my very ripe 61 years old. So I am excited for you to be learning this now.

btw, cheese is a food that I allow myself. So while I am not doing sugar or wheat, I can still be a dairy queen.... 2 days a week now. I know you are going to do well with this. And I am so happy for you !!!
