I am still over eating at times, but having switched what I eat to more vegetables / fruits - I am still steadily losing weight. Very, very slowly - but 18 pounds since last year this time, and I am feeling it. Stairs don't make me huff as much, and it is much easier to bike into town. I am still quite overweight, but I want to live a long time, and getting my diet under control is a must.

Why am I so Hungry? | Paleo Leap

This article explains quite well how eating more vegetables actually is far less calories.

Recently I have taken a lot of time off psych central. I am thinking of you all - especially you Shattered Sanity. You wouldn't be posting here alone so much if I hadn't upset Lucy, and try as I might, I cannot reforge that bridge. Sorry Buddy!

Anyway, we struggle with overeating and binging - but for me, I started small changes of adding veggies at least in bigger portions to a meal. I hope, hope, hope you all can benefit from this idea, and eat huge bowls of salads and good raw veggies, or a veggie meal in any way you like it. Heck, start with fried battered veggies. Anything to begin incorporating this healthier alternative -that lets us eat large amounts without the regrets.

I have to thank my husband for the changes to my diet. I fussed with him for a few years because he refused to eat as I thought he should. But what I learned is, food should taste good to me. I don't have to just eat whatever I cook, even if it is bad - and if I have had enough - STOP. (I don't mean during binges - I mean during regular times). I don't have to always clean my plate, and I don't have to eat leftovers that were yucky.

Learning these things helped me to learn that food should be enjoyed. I have learned how to shop for just the meals I will eat that week, instead of shopping for every contingency - I don't need fully stocked shelves - just the foods I enjoy, along with basic staples (and herbs, and seasonings - lots of those).

I still don't know when I will be back on psych central regularly - there is too much internal work I am doing right now, and I am trying to keep my head balanced, and not get crazy obsessed about anything. But I really love psych central, and especially a few people I feel very strongly for. Your troubles I feel, and mentally uplift you. Hugs - Hearts and Warm Wishes! <3

I've been an eating machine for the last week or two and it's killing me emotionally and financially. I hate feeling so out of control - it's almost compulsive, I have to stop and buy something to eat. Food represents a weird kind of safety to me, and I stuff myself when my emotions start to overwhelm me...or when I can't feel much at all.

Thanks Lucy,

I have been so sad lately. And I get feeling overly responsible for things I can't seem to fix.

I feel like people can read my mind, or mine there at times. Usually more during the manic part of my bipolar. But I thought I was psychic for many years. I think they go hand in hand.

I am really confused today. Sad, confused and disconnected. But Sweet Shattered Sanity - I always hope for the best for you. Your sharing makes me feel brave and not alone. I got some free vegetables which made me feel very wealthy. I have been over eating a lot this week.

This is the perfect line. Food to me is: Safety (yes exactly), a reward, and a (the word for being pet and comforted).

Food is safety first and foremost I think. Wow - great insight. I am going to ponder this for awhile.

Restricting again. Triggered by a bipolar episode. Something out of control? OK, well, we can control this.

You guys know the drill.

I ordered about 4 gallons of rice milk. The poor delivery man will be so stressed. A couple of fresh smoothies too.

In reality the only person we have control over is ourself and then sometimes we don't seem to have that. Struggling terribly myself and will not be around here until I can get myself back together. Really don't even know if I have ever had it together. lol Stressed, depressed, need to be alone and try to sort it all out. All the best to all of you.

I'm not exactly sure, because I don't get to have one very often, but I like bananas, mangos, strawberries, seaweed or other leafy green vegetable (maybe kale?). I don't have my old food processor, or a good blender, so I don't get to mix my own, and they're awfully expensive to buy from the store. But so good! oh and yogurt! Maybe a plain unflavored or vanilla yogurt. Not many of them seem to have yogurt from the store. Or almond milk, or rice milk. I can't have soy because of my underactive thyroid. Oh, and if I have it, carob powder.

What do you like in your smoothies?

ETA, also, all kinds of fruit and berries. But not everything here in one! Just a few of these to blend together. Carrot juice too, I love that fresh.
