Hi,

I just started overeaters anonymous about a month ago. Is anyone else doing this 12 step program? I am wanting to connect with others in the program. I have problems with binge eating and OA is helping me.
Hugs from:

Thanks for this!

I wanted to attend OA but the only place and time they hold meetings in my city are both too far and at times I'm working. That's great it's been positive for you, I've never met anyone who's been or worked the steps
Thanks for this!

My therapist recommended OA to me however I am early in recovery with self harm (40 days) and she said I needed to find something to replace self harm first. I wonder if this was good advice?

I started going to OA 11 months ago - I used to go to AA, and found it very unhelpful (there was a lot of racism in most of the AA groups I went to ). But OA has been the complete opposite for me. I didn't go there to lose weight, but to get to grips with an eating disorder & to better manage my out-of-control diabetes. Since I've been going, my diabetes has completely turned around. I'm also able to plan a week's worth of meals, which I could never do before. My weight hasn't changed much, but that wasn't the goal for me. I'm just happy I don't have to go on Insulin, and can shock all the (stupid, ignorant) doctors who kept saying "Just go on a diet" as if that would solve everything. No diet, just OA.
