we found out last week after the second biopsy. now, she has to have the lymph nodes tested/removed to see if it's spread. really hoping it hasn't but my mom is 83 so of course something is going to happen at her age. i think we're all holding up pretty well. it's a bit hard on me with my own chronic health problems to be doing a lot of driving and staying at her place now and then, but she's my mom so of course i'll do it. she has to have 5 days of radiation and i'm going to take her home from the appts and my sis is going to take her to them. i have something like chronic fatigue syndrome so i'm sure i'll be worn out too by the stupid cancer. at least it's not alzheimer's as that is what we've worried my mom would get with it being in her family. i just hope the cancer hasn't spread. i think we can all handle it being localized but if it's spread then it would be really hard. my mom is a sweetie.

thanks you guys

it looks like the cancer hasn't spread to the lymph nodes which is wonderful! we don't get the official lab results for a few days but the doctor can usually tell and she said it looked really good. yea! now my mom has a ct scan tomorrow and then a break over the weekend before radiation starts next mon. for 5 days. so we're all really relieved and happy.

tree, i remember your mom was having something similar not long ago. did they find out what it was if you want to share? i hope your mom is ok too.

Reflection,

My grandmother had breast cancer when she was 82...The physicians said that it is better for a woman to get it after menopause (doesn't tend to spread)...She lived to be 95 and cancer free!!

I know it's hard worrying about your mom. I took care of my mom a year and a half ago before she died. Her cancer was not diagnosed until one week before she died. She was 78 and, we all thought, very healthy up until three months before she went in hospital with a heart attack. The whole thing was really confusing because she had a heart attack which was quite unrelated to the cancer but lead to the ct scan that showed a shadow on her lung that turned out to be a metastatic cancer on the outside of her lung that had originated in her liver. Stage 4 liver cancer. Whew! <----- More than you wanted to know, I'm sure.

She was spared a long and painful illness. So were we. But the shock was hard.

I am glad that your mother will be well for now. We have had oodles of cancer in our family, therefore, I have all the medical tests done regularly.
