I am so worried about my 26 yr old son I think he has depression well I am quite sure it is as I have suffered from depression myself and still do from time to time. My problem is I am scared I will say the wrong thing or become too forceful getting him to seek help as I know the way I have felt at times and am so scared of him getting to that place and not seeking help at all I just dont know how to go about helping him. We have spoken about how he is feeling and I have asked him if he would speak to a doctor but he doesnt live with me and so i have no way of knowing if he will or not and he hasnt said he would or wouldnt, just skirted round the question I am so so scared

Hi worriedmum
if you already talked about it, just follow up on that conversation. ask if things have got any better for him. and then just be bold enough to say it...did you follow up with a counselor? I think it would be really helpful for you. I could help you find one if you want. Welcome to Psych Central. You will find we have several forums you can post to about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. You will get a lot of support here. Again, welcome.

Living my life...but we've had a diagnosis since my son was 8. I'd suggest calling your family doctor for advice. If you get into treatment for your depression, without asking him to do the same, it might inspire him to get help. You'll hear a lot of 'I'm not you!' if you talk to him about going because you've gone. He's at the age where they typically straighten up. Hold tough!
