Hi there.
I'm asking this on behalf of my partner who was diagnosed with Aspergers when she was younger. Sometimes she reports this feeling in her head that she describes as being like static and really uncomfortable. Most of the time she has had this feeling its been a a time with lots of people around but not all of the times are in highly social conditions. Sometimes they are sporadic but she still reports that it feels like lots of people trying to get her attention and she doesn't know how to respond. It confuses me as it often seems to be unrelated to whats happening but I dont want to be doing anything that is making her feel bad but she cannot really say what it is that triggers it. I guess what I'm asking is does anyone else feel this? It seems like a sensory overload type thing but with social stimuli rather than sensory stimuli but she does has some sensory processing stuff too. The fact is eve when there's not a lot of people around she has it and describes it as feeling like theres too much social expectation and it makes her brain got staticky and hard to focus. Anyone know anything like this or have some resources? Thanks. |

I have a nephew with Asperger's but I have never heard him describe anything like that. There is an Asperger's support web site that you might find some help in.

I feel similarly. I never thought of it as static, but that description makes a lot of sense.

Hi.
Thanks for the responses. I had previously wondered about siezures but she doesn't experience any real change in consciousness or have movement. She just described it to me as a building pressure when she feels she cannot block out all the social stimuli around her. She has come off medication but this is something that has occured regardless of her medication status. I guess its just worrying that she has what she feels as very real and physical as a result of social stimuli and the expectations to respond to them. Angelique67, does it still sound like you? If so, do you have any wisdom to impart in regards to how to stop it or cope when it is triggered? We have a busy household it i hate that she just has to cope with everyday things. |
