Hello, I am new here and I'm 20.
I'm an only child, but since I was a kid I always wanted a brother or sister to play along, company (i am very lonely) and also help my parents in old age. Since 2007 it has become a "obsession" for me, every day I think about it. I do not know what to do, I'm 20 and my parents 50, because of this, i have a DEEP regret and feel guilty for not having talked about it 6 ~ 7 years ago. Every night since 2013 I get depressed (I know it sounds weird). What is my problem? I would swap anything to have a brother or sister to company and long-term help my parents. And I do not care about the age difference My parents have brothers and even so it has been difficult for them to help my grandparents, imagine if they were only children!!! PLEASE help me ![]() |

Welcome to Psych Central. There are certainly many people here that can empathize with you. If you continue to experience depression you might find a therapist can help talk through the roots of the problem. A psychiatrist or psych doc can provide medicine to treat depression.
A self help suggestion might be to scout out volunteer opportunities to be a big sister or brother to someone in your country with no parents or missing one. You can help them and by helping them you may gain a sibling!
