Our 37 yr old son started acting "off" 4 months ago...left his wife, got fired from his job. Family members and friends started noticing something was wrong and have told him they are worried about him. He tells them that he is worried about THEM. When we google his symptoms all signs point to a manic episode. He has no history of mental illness or serious depression that we know of. He absolutely refuses to seek help as he doesnt think there is anything wrong with him. He seemed better and more normal for a bit, now is bad again. No odd behavior that you can see, it's what he says. He can be totally normal for hours and seemingly happy, then something triggers him and nothing about his conversation is normal or the same person we know. Day by day is a combination of normal and abnormal and can switch back and forth almost by the minute. Hoping for opinions or advice as to whether this sounds like bi-polar.thanks

This doesn't sound like bipolar disorder as moods tend to last weeks / months. The best way to get him help is to hospitalize if he's a danger to himself or others or psycotic. My best guess is he has low level psycosis.

His overall speech and actions for 3 months has seemed like mania. But there are times when he seems more normal, like his old self. Stress seems to trigger the pressured speech. By the day we see a mix of normal and "off" behaviour.
