I have a son who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 14. He is now 19. It has been such a long hard road. I have worked with him on my own to help him get his GED and begin taking college courses. He is now refusing to take his medication. My husband has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and a slight service-related disability. They are both verbally and mentally abusive to me and constantly fight with one another. I work full time in a very stressful job and have no friends or family support. My husband does not work as he receives disability. I feel overwhelmed and depressed and sometimes wish that I could disappear. I am constantly trying to keep the peace but feel I can't go on anymore.

Hi Jansco. welcome to Psych Central. I am sorry you are in such a toxic environment when what you need is support and caring. I hope you can find a professional that can help you create boundaries so you can have some time to self care. A support group could also be a help.

I have been in dark spaces and found a safety plan helped me know that if things got unmanageable there was a plan in place. If you go to a therapist or psychiatrist please ask them to help you with this. Here is more on creating one yourself.

Common Hotline Phone Numbers | Psych Central

Many people here at PC who have gone beyond the immediate crisis, find they can share these feelings and what they are going through with the confidence that people go through similar things and can empathize. So many forums are offered as well as Chatrooms (after you have 5 posts or comments on others posts). Depression chat meets on Thursday night at 9pm EST and Anxiety Friday at 8PM. This is a great way to meet people just as much as the forums. These are not a substitute for crisis support but can play an active role in the path to recovery. These were cancelled last week and have not been rescheduled but may be soon. Check the calendar after you have 5 posts.

You can also be an active member in other ways like supporting others in their questions, reading articles and posts http://forums.psychcentral.com that are applicable to your area of concern.

Please feel free to private message me or any of the Community Liaisons by left clicking on the name in blue to the left of their post) for questions or just to share.

Hello jansco368: Welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!
