This is my first post. I'm the mother of a high functioning aspie, 19 years old, who thinks he has no problem. Everyone is wrong about him and his failures are the faults of others. He won't get a job, he can't manage his time or wake to an alarm clock. He won't take meds. He has aches and pains all the time. The biggest issue at this time is that he won't brush his teeth and hasn't for close to two years and is in danger of losing all of this teeth because of this stubbornness. I feel so helpless. He is able to work and drive but he doesn't want to bad enough to do it. We recently put him in an apartment so he would br forced to take care of his own needs and get a job, but he just sits there and games all day and never leaves the house. Any suggestions??

Hello dear abby: I'm sorry I won't be able to offer any suggestions here. However I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So.... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

Afraid I can't offer much advice here, except to say if you believe he is capable, then would it be possible to allow him to mess up?
Maybe if his cable or internet went unpaid he might be more inclined to do something about it.
I have 4 kids my eldest is 20 and still at home, but only because she s in full time education and pays for the broadband and internet for the family home.
Watching our kids fail is heart breaking, But sometimes it can be the only way.

All the best for you and yours.

I think I've felt that way before. It is hellish. You are not alone. We are here for you. Sounds like you are doing a good job at distraction. Keep at it to take the focus off your thoughts and feelings that have been overwhelming you.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
