Friends,
I finally was able to convince husband to go to the doctor this month. The doctor ran some tests, and she shared the results with us yesterday. I have been picking up cues that husband's memory was off. Well it turns out the MRI showed evidence of an "old stroke". Husband had one incident last year, where he called me three times from the parking lot of a store in town, and told me that he didn't know why he was there. The doctor seems to agree with me that most likely that is when it occurred. Anyway his blood sugars are on the high side, and he needs to start watching his diet. I need to lose weight, so I'm trying to figure out what kind of diet might benefit us both. ![]() Any ideas? Anyone else been through anything similar? |

ej I am sorry to hear this hon. if you can find a diabetic diet that would be good. most of them are not hard actually. take out the starches. I say it isn't hard but it is for me. I am a potatoe junkie! gotta have my carbs!

EJ,
I am a type 2 diabetic who is in complete control. I can help you with the diet if you wish. its not sugar that is the enemy, but the carb counts that are. PM me and give me some background on how high sugars were and i would be happy to help. Im currently studying to be a personal trainer so this would be helping me as well. Take care, this is not bad, in fact it could be very good for both of you. Colleen

Hi Bee and Colleen,
I personally think it is an opportunity for positive change. However, yesterday husband was angry about the news, which disrupts my positive feelings and outlook. So I appreciate the support received here. He seems better so far today. ![]() EJ |

Hi Perna,
I grew up with a very nutritionally conscious mother. When I met my husband and married him, his eating what he liked was a welcome break from my mother's hovering and control. As we have aged, it has become more of a concern. I cook, and he does dishes too, but b/c I'm working and he's not, he has been doing the shopping. If "bad" food doesn't come into the house nobody can eat it. Thanks for "weighing" in. ![]() |
