hi everyone...i was wondering what other people think of personality disorders...from what ive read it seems like most mental health websites say that personality disorders cant be 'cured' but managed. this really bothers me. i was wondering if anyone has some other views? can a personality disorder go away, be 'fixed'? or is it lifelong, something u have to manage ur entire life....? just wanted to hear others views...im feeling quite depressed about it

How ignorant people are that say that.
Course they can be cured, they are caused in relationship, they can be cured in relationship. If the person wants recovery and wants to seek and do what it takes, and why woulndt one? are you thinking about yourself?

Yes, therapy helps a person with a personality disorder grow.
Personality disorders are formed during development; they are ways of thinking and perceptions learned. They are part of us, but working with a therapist gives us the opportunity to develop more and learn new perceptions, and to learn about ourselves. ![]() There is an excellent book about a woman's treatment for and cure of Borderline Personality called "Get Me Out of Here" by Rachael Rieland. |

there is a big stigma against personality disorders and a lot o therapistsdo stil throw up their hands and say incurable grrrr
![]() but they are wrong! my old T dealt specifically wiht borderline personality disorders that no-one else would take - he said there is no such thing as an incurable person - only the wrong therapist or the wrong time for healing and i agree dont lose hope - its hard work - but its all about changing the way we think when it is affected by our upbringing sends hugs if ok ![]() ![]() ![]()
