I've been doing a bit of research on avoidant personality as my T called it. Up until now I have avoided doing that, it was too triggering for me Avoidant personality I can see myself in a lot of the criteria but I also see hope. One of the first steps to healing from this has to be challenging the Unrealistic Negative Beliefs about oneself. Even if these beliefs sometimes feel like the Absolute Truth..... they are NOT!!!!

Love to all who struggle with this,
Fuzzy

I think challenging unrealistic negative beliefs is very hard - or at least I know it is hard for me. My husband often tells me I am my own worst enemy and I always put myself down and blame myself for everything. (I don't think that has anything to do with avoiding though).

I am so glad you are seeing some hope. Keep up the good work!

Fuzzy,

It can often be very hard and humbling to look at ones-- ummm, what shall we call them--- shortcomings? struggles? difficulties?

Doing research can give one knowledge and they say knowledge can be power.
But may I say-- please be careful-- doing research on one's own without input from a professional can sometimes be scary and confusing. Hope you are able to run your findings by someone--even a loved one or friend. Hope this doesn't feel like a lecture it's not meant to be-- Avoidant personality I just care and hope the very best for you.
Challenging those "unrealistic negative beliefs" is indeed a great step to take! -- IMO. I relate with your struggles of AvPD(avoidant personality disorder)-- and wish you much much healing.

thanks for posting
....... I really need to repeat this--" Even if these beliefs sometimes feel like the Absolute Truth.... they are NOT !!"

I am glad you are able to recognize that these beliefs are not real. I would think that is a huge step. I hope you keep growing and healing. I hope you have the support you need. Take care of you.
