Hello doctors,
My sister in law three months ago had a heavy brain injury by hitting herself on floor by slipping herself. She was operated as her brain was damaged. After operation, she had no memory of that incident. Now she says that her memory has returned and she is blaming me for her injury by saying that I hit her with a stick on her head. All the witnesses around her are denying her and are supporting me but she is insisting on it. I want you to kindly confirm to me that with brain injury false memories(confabulation) can occur so that she stops blaming me. Last edited by Wren_; Sep 02, 2013 at 06:31 AM. None of us here are doctors. This board is for peer-support.
I don't know much about the topic in question. I do know that brain injuries can vastly affect memory though, it's possible that she really believes she's telling the truth. As far as getting her to stop blaming you? Good luck with that. People who firmly believe something as truth will generally not listen to any amount of reason/logic even if the belief in question is blatantly false. My advice? Change how you view the situation. You can't change other people, but you can change yourself and how you choose to react to her accusations. |
