Hello!

My nemesis lies in procrastination/avoidance, which most likely arises from a mixture of passive-aggressive issues together with issues surrounding fear of failure, success and fear of rejection.
This really has ruined my life. (I have ruined it). Instead of having a post-doc I have an incomplete bachelors degree from 30 yrs ago and failed ventures. Of course the frustration leads to depression and so the cycle is negatively reinforced.

I am finally (hopefully) ready to tackle this but where/ how do I start?

I imagine that a good number of other people here also suffer from procrastination / passive-aggressive issues. Perhaps it will warrant setting up a sub forum? If not, please advise how I could proceed / where to post in the forums.

Thanks

Just a thought, since there haven’t been any replies from people who think they may have passive-aggressive personality disorder – have you looked into the 12-step group Codependents-Anonymous? Some of the patterns they identify as codependent patterns seem similar to what you described.

I have been diagnosed with PDNOS and in general I’m not a big fan of the 12-step steps for emotional issues but the format does allow for an all-volunteer meeting of people who are “equal” in that they all profess to have a similar issue. You can check out CoDA on the internet and to see if you think it might be at least a partial fit. They have in-person meetings but may have some online, too.

Hello Here Today. Is that 'Personality disorder not otherwise specified'? Codependents - hmm - I rebel against that thought that I could possibly be dependent on anybody else for anything. I'll look CoDA up, thanks.

Hi Verity
Ah, according to wikepedia,
'Four personality disorders were excluded from the main body of the latest version of the DSM (DSM-IV-TR) but this diagnosis may be used instead. The four personality disorders are:

Sadistic personality disorder
Self-defeating personality disorder
Depressive personality disorder
Passive–aggressive personality disorder'

Hoookay ..... onwards I plod ...

Although I'm wondering now if they have been included in the new DSM V as my therapists diagnostic manual includes Passive-aggressive and depressive???

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
