Hi all well I'm looking around this board and I can see sub forums for personality disorders but the problem is one of my diagnosis is personality disorder however I have not been given a type eg, dependent.
Is this right ? I know mental health in the UK they tend not to focus on dxs but I would like to read up on it.
Anyone else in this boat?

J

I was dx'd with PDNOS (Personality Disorder Not Otherwise Specified). I have -- or had -- characteristers of several, not enough of any particular one to qualify. There are some good articles you might like in the Sticky Thread "Top Personality Resources Online".

Was it "NOS" perhaps?

NOS is typically written down when you show symptoms of multiple disorders on a specific spectrum. It's likely that you have traits for two or more personality disorders. If you are curious which ones, you could always ask. I'm sure they'd understand your wanting to know.

I also have newly diagnosed personality disorder nos. I recommend looking it up on wikipedia or google, what I understood from it there are at least two possible reasons. When I answered the screening questions, my symptoms fit into several different personality disorders, but none stood out above the rest. The other reason is the personality disorder you have is either specific to you or is something no longer in the current DSM manual.

Possibly it's PD-NOS. That happens when you fit either more than one specifical personality disorder, or you don't meet enough criteria to fit in one but enough to fit in more than one.
But as it's been said, the best way to know is to ask who diagnosed you

Lana

Hi, I have a nonspecific personality disorder too. I think that just means where you have some symptoms of a personality disorder but not enough to have a full diagnosis.

My Axis II lists it like this:301.9 Personality Disorder NOS (schizoid, obsessive/compulsive, avoidant features).
Since my Axis I is Social Anxiety Disorder and PTSD(c), I'd tend to think that I'm more Schizotypal than Schizoid... but idk? I guess going back to my psychologist and asking is that best start.
Thanks for that simple but very wise answer!
