People with personality disorders are the most selfless people on the planet. I mean that term to be taken literally here: Self-less.
That is to say, people with personality disorders have lost a crucial part of themselves- an ability to function in a way that is crucial to being a happy and healthy human being. They are examples of feeling and hence behavior, taken to the extreme. Below is a list of the Personality Disorders and their corresponding loss of ability. Antisocial- the loss of the ability to feel. Paranoid- the loss of the ability to trust. Narcissistic- the loss of the ability to relate. Borderline- the loss of the ability to feel secure with others. Avoidant- the loss of the ability to feel secure with one's self. Dependent- the loss of the ability to rely on one's self. Obsessive Compulsive- the loss of the ability to rely on others. Histrionic- the loss of the ability to feel content with one's self. Schizoid- the loss of the ability to take risk. Schizotypal- the loss of the ability to discern fantasy from reality. The paradox is, that to be truly selfless, you become an unhealthy and sometimes destructive force. Suffering leads to more suffering. Joy leads to more joy. It is those who are the most self-ish and whole that are the most positive forces in this world. In conclusion, Hobbes got it right. ![]() |
