I have a problem, when I read things, or see things on TV which are beyond my control; when I accidentally stumble upon things, or adverts which I can't control, or even when watching programs which I might enjoy; I can't seem to enjoy them anymore.

This became apparent over the summer, and I think it may have even developed mostly in that period. For example, if I am watching a talk show, and I spot someone in the crowd, or someone actually talking during it, the silliest of things can make me upset, for example, if someone in the audience has a tattoo on they're arm, or a piercing in their ear, triggers something, to make me feel upset.

When I look at people, I just recognize things; their height, their tattoos or piercings, their looks, and others things, anything about them; about anybody, makes me upset, probably because I feel inadequate.

Does anyone else get these feelings? And in these kind of situations?

The need to control everything is often associated with anxiety. It can feel unsettling to recognize so many things that are beyond your control. But ultimately we have to realize that most things are beyond our control, and we have to learn to stop worrying about those things because it doesn't help to worry. Therapy, medication, and relaxation practice can help you to be able to let go of the things that bother you like that.

When I am most unhappy and unaccepting of myself, I am extremely critical of others. Can be others on TV, at the mall, at work, in my thoughts of others even if I'm all alone.

Does this sound like it might be the same for you?

I sometimes get upset about "odd" things to keep from noticing the things that matter that I can't do anything about? It's easier to get upset at an audience member on TV or a tattoo or something than to pay attention to what is being said that is the actual upset or to recognize my husband is out of town and I'm missing him, etc.

I do indentify. Like i can get really upset when I'm in a cafe and the waiter takes the plate away too soon after i've finished. Sometimes it helps to work out why something upsets me, and sometimes not.

Do you ever go deeper and ask yourself what is it about the thing that upsets you?

I believe a lot of things affect our feelings for a reason they are connected to something bigger. Getting upset over odd things

river.
