I was diagnosed with BPD 3 yrs ago at 1 hospital, but at the one I am under now they just see my symptoms as traits not a dx (altho at my next pdoc appt this is to be reviewed). Anyway I have never known anything about BPD until recently when I started researching the symptoms and trying to find out just what it is. It describes me perfectly so i know that there is no doubt about the dx, esp after occasionally reading posts in this forum. But what I really want to know is how BPD is usually treated??? I don't know if there are meds that are helpful, or certain approaches to counselling, or what? Any info or opinions on this would be much appreciated thanks BPD treatment??

Hi Irish
I have BPD also, and was dx about a year and a half ago.
As far as I know ( and I could be wrong) is that there is no BPD specific meds, but they can give u meds to alleviate some of the symptoms, eg antidepressants, anti psychotics.
I'm currently doing the DBT program (dialectical behavioural therapy ) and its a great help. It involves both group and individual therapy, and teaches you all sorts of skills. I recommend looking it up and reading about it.
I hope this helps BPD treatment??

Take care

I too have it...and would agree that meds are given to alleviate some of symptoms...the key is to find someone who speciallizes in it...I'm currently going through a program for Emotional Intensity Disorder (currently known as BPD). It is really about finding tools to help sort through an emotional intense episode...very informative...I posted about filters not to long ago...something that you may want to look at...recognizing them has helped...

I've found Talk therapy to be most successful.

I am new here tonight and wondering if I have BPD? I have wondered for some time now but I'm in a really icky place right now and looking for help. How do I find someone who specializes in this? How do I know if I have it? Thanks, Birch

There are books on BPD that you could search for on Amazon.com. One is

Surviving A Borderline Parent by Kimberlee Roth and Freda Friedman

In this book they refer to a Web site that I have not visited:
