I was wondering if any of the other hyper-alerts out there experience more than an average amount of intuition and procognitive/psychic episodes.
My other question is; am I in the right forum? I am complex PTSD but ![]() |

Why not post in both (just not the exact same post) ???
Actually, this is the forum for PTSD, not combat pstd which has it's own, if they want to post there instead. I was wondering what country you are in where they accept the C-PTSD label. It's still quite controversial here in the USA and not in the DSM yet? As for your actual post question....perhaps it is that the intuitive mind is more susceptible to PTSD resulting from trauma (rather than trauma causing such experience? I was intuitive long before the injury.)

I cant tell. yes I realize that it is not medically recognized as of yet. But the reason I say it is because my condition was from year one to 18. Lucky I was loved conventionally up till then. But I was hospitalized with Spinal Meningitis at 6 months and broken collar bone at 11 mos, so who actually knows? Because of this I can't possibly know which came first. I thought perhaps it was a protective mechanism. Thanks for the input

I'll jump in on the psychic question! Personally I think that they are two different things but can often happen in the same person. I am very intuitive, always have been. At one time I was asked by a local new age store to be one of their psychics but I turned them down. I believe that all people are intuitive/psychic but some are more open to it/sensitive than others. Often a life of abuse will serve to open up that ability more as it helps us to survive. Also, though people who have histories of abuse/trauma are often hypervigilent. We notice more, look for patterns and seek to predict to make our life safer. Like any skill our abilities to predict grow with experience. Those of us with traumatic experience have had more reason to practice and hone our skills just to stay alive. So I guess my thought is yes, yes... both and!

I also believe abuse makes us more sensitive. We scan the room for any feelings that may be negative to avoid being hurt. I remember as a child standing at more door and knowing I should not go in. I could feel the danger. As an adult I am highly aware of other peoples emotions and reach out to help, but my own emotions are so unclear. I am 45 yr old woman and I have been in therapy for a year.

I also believe that the extra awareness is a combination of senses and lot's of practice. When I was older and would return from late night work, I could smell if my dad was up or in bed at the door as he always had a smoke before bed, also the level of drinking before hand.
I am now learning that I am a highly sensitive person, and after a life time of being told that I was defective- too sensitive, toughen up, and almost as long blocking are feelings, and early trama, I have very high anxiety, always looking for plan A. B. C. so there were no surprises. Living a very flat cold life, trying to avoid emotions. My T has labeled this avoidence. ![]() Yes I have a bit of natural intuitiveness with lot's of practice. And at times when I have ignored it did not go well. My last experience with intuition was in Group Therapy, the team psychologist taught mindfulness, and later when I had the chance to work with the T, I knew it would be a good fit. And I was right. A caution on making intuition more than it is as sometimes it can be wishfull thinking and imaginary, been there as well. Last edited by Gently1; Feb 12, 2011 at 11:30 AM. |
