My childhood was alright. I had both my parents alive, they were married, I believed in Santa. It was normal, I'd say.

My PTSD showed up on my early 20's due to the abuse I endured with my ex-husband, I should be thankful to be alive after all. Still fighting to find that feeling.

No matter how anyone feelings about their PTSD, going to psychiatrist/psychologist does help. They are the few ones in the field, anywhere that would understand what it is, the impact and how much damage it does to your life. Just gotta find the right one that would click with you so you do feel progress with your path to recovery.

And I don't think you're stupid. You're trying to learn and understand which is what very few out there dare to do, it's easier to point and judge than to learn.

Hope I helped.
Thanks for this!

Well you know honestly I thought I had my PTSD pinned down to one event....but for all I know a lot of my childhood experiences could have easily contributed. So I really don't think it's a stupid question. I know I've had it since I was 16...since that is when I first had symptoms but I was thinking about going to college so I didn't want to deal with it and thought I could just push through it and it would go away(a school counseler even told me not to worry about it when I described to her a couple PTSD symptoms I was having which probably didn't help). Well finally at the age of 22 there is no more pushing it deep down inside and pushing myself to just move on.

But yeah its not uncommon for symptoms to not show up right away....sometimes it wont show up till years later. If you are going to a therapist...this might be something to bring up to them as well.
Thanks for this!
