I found my father hanging at the end of a rope with which he had hung himself when I was 12 years old. I went into a state of shock and found myself wandering in a field where I would fly kites whenI lived with him a year earlier. I thought he was there, after I saw him dead.

The next decade was a blur. My instinkts for survival became activated. I graduated high school but with great cost to my soul. The school had no idea what had happpened and I could barely speak due to my stress.

I was in lots of pain but was unable to ask for help, due to irrational fears.

Mental health providors and medicine saved my life as I wanted to die to end my pain.

I have a good life thanks to the hard work of doctors and nurses and supportive people. Still, some triggers are painful when triggered and I become petrified. I cope very well with much help

(((brookwest))),

Oh, that is such a horrible thing for a young boy to see and then try to process without help. I am glad that you are finally getting the validation and help you deserve to finally process your difficult personal history.

That is painful. I lost my father to a heart attack when I was 18. It is painful enough, but at 12 and to lose him like that must have been a huge burden to bear. I'm glad you got help and live a good life now.

Brook, that is horrible. My H walked in on his dad trying to commit suicide. If it were not for him walking in on him he would no longer be here.

My H was 10 and his dad had started a truck and laid under the exhaust while it was running. He proceeded to drink until he passed out. My H had to pull his daddy out from under that truck and he thought he was dead. A little 80 lb 10 yr old boy had to pull a 200 lb man out from under a truck. He watched his daddy and thought he was gone and the trauma it caused in him eventhough his dad is here today, was tremendous. He never told his mom. It was his secret he didn't want to hurt his mom. She already spent to much time in state mental facilities. I certinly feel for you.

Wow, I have never heard that version of the national anthem. I think I liked it.
