The ALJ denied me, saying that he didn't recognize the qualifications of those making my diagnoses:
LCSW, QMHP, QMHP, CADC Applicant, LMP, MA, PMHNP, MD, and a PhD Licensed Psychlogist

My state Voc Rehab declined to accept me, saying that I wasn't able to work. What about their psychologists, not qualified either?

If none of these folks were qualified, then who is qualified by SSDI to make a diagnosis?

Can someone explain this to me?

And is there one place where I can decode the abbreviations?

((SongofDeborah)),

I am so sorry that you are running into this challenge. As far as "I" know, what is considered the "most" qualified to "diagnose" a mental illness is a psychiatrist. I don't know what all those abbreviations mean other than MD and Psychologist.

You need to see a psychiatrist and be evaluated and officially diagnosed. That "should" lead you to getting the help you need.

I really am sorry you have been challenged this way as having PTSD and not being validated for it can be very triggering and aggravating to the PTSD.

As with anything else, there "are" people who "use" disorders in order to take advantage of the system. Therefore there has to be certain protective ways to avoid the system from being used inappropriately. Try not to take this "personally", and I know that is difficult as it looks like you have seen a lot of different people. But, without the clear cut diagnoses from a "licensed psychiatrist" you are not going to get what you need in services.

I've been told by many people that they deny you automatically. They want to see if you'll re apply or get a lawyer.

the Social security department has a list of approved treatment providers they use. here in NY what happens is a person applies for SSDI. then they receive a letter stating who Social Security would like the applicant to see for treatment providers. then the applicant gets an approval letter or denial letter with info on how to appeal the decision.

usually the appealing process includes not just using the same treatment providers that was used in the first process. basically updated info is needed by both sides meaning the applicant sees both their treatment providers and the treatment providers on the SSDI approved list.

you can get this info on what SSDI approved treatment providers to see by you or your lawyer contacting your SSDI office or look at your letter that SSDI sent to you asking you to see their treatment providers and which ones to see.

answer to your other question...to decode the abbreviations just type them in the search bar....

one plaqce to decode ...I use google when I want to decode something.. I just type in the letters and the words ...what is.... and then google tells me what the letters stand for ....

example if you type in the phrase what is (abbreviation) in mental health you will get this.....

LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker
QMHP is a qualified mental health professional
CADC Applicant is someone who is applying for a clincial alcohol and drug counselor credentials
LMP is a licensed massage practitioner
PMHNP is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
MD is a medical doctor
PhD Licensed Psychologist is a psychologist who has a degree in philosophy. or a degree in clinical psychology and is licensed by the state.
MA is masters of academics.
