No, a person with PTSD, or who is under a lot of stress can experience nightmares about anything. Our brains try to process whatever we take in during the day. Our brains have a lot of information stored and as we sleep our brains try to put things together and store, so we can have stressful dreams that disturb our sleep/rest/restorative. As we make gains in "problem solving" we can add ways for our brains to utilize that while we sleep as well.

I have severe insomnia and haven't dreamt/that I can remember in years (10+), I start all this therapy and trauma stuff and since all this crap came forward lots of flashbacks and nightmares. The flashbacks are about the trauma, the nightmares are random and make no sense, constantly being attacked by animals. I was recently put on Minipress for this but the dreams seem to be worse while the flashbacks are less. Weird.... Remron was also added for the depression but taken off due to weight gain . I'm currently waiting for a eval.I didnt know if the dreams were just dreams or PTSD related.

The neurotransmitter GABA gets depleted when we are under stress. Its role is to cool the brain, like a radiator. A hot brain is a racing brain, very busy, mostly with worries. Nightmares are busy brain generating its own anxiety and trauma picture show.

Bad dreams are reduced or eliminated by raising GABA. You can take the powder form of the the acid GABA (or theanine) or you can do an hour of yoga or yogalike stretching a day in three twenty minute blocks or time. You should find your nightmares eliminated almost immediately.

Billie J. Sahley was a pain researcher. You can find her little books on GABA online or in some health food stores. Her books are very informative. Her protocol os simple and easy to follow. No one should suffer nightmares or night terrors and conventional medicine has nothing for it.

Nightmares can wear you down. Please start stretching and tell me how well it works.
