I think it is helpful to have the right diagnosis. I needed to know I had PTSD so I could read about it, and understand what it means. I had every symptom discribed with PTSD, and IMHO, it was important I understood that and I also have a therapist who specializes in working with "trauma patients and PTSD", it made a big difference.

I don't think you can fully heal without knowing what you're up against. Of course you can try....

Well it is good to know so you can get specific treatment for your specific issues. Also if PTSD is a factor in not being able to work a diagnoses helps with getting on SSI or SSDI.

Well it sure is difficult to fight an enemy if you don't know who or what that enemy is. Having a diagnosis tells you what you are up against and then you have access to the already available treatments. Otherwise you are firing blindly into the night so to speak

Personally I feel better about having a specific diagnosis rather than a bunch of symptoms... It helps things to be a little less overwhelming when you know what kinds of treatments will help.
