I started to see this Nurse Practitioner. I like her. She's nice. She's very thorough and up to the nanosecond on things.

She said that my PTSD is pretty severe. She said that I have a lot of the same symptoms as some of the combat veterans in her practice.

I've suffered a ton of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual), been raped and had someone try to kill me.

Since I have so many nightmares where I wake up in a cold sweat and freaked out, she decided to try me on Prazosin. It's what she gives to the PTSD vets.

I've only just started it today, so I don't know what to expect.

I sure hope it works because I don't sleep very well.

I stopped taking it because I couldn't afford to pay for the medications or doctor's visits. I have to say that I wish I was still on it. It kept the nightmares and flashbacks in check a lot better than doing it all by myself. I don't have combat PTSD either but its perfectly possible for civilian PTSD to be just as crippling and severe combat PTSD. They're still different, though. I recommend it, though your dosage might have to be adjusted at first. Good luck.

I was on it for about 6 months and I still have a partial prescription in my cupboard. I really liked it, I slept well and no nightmares at all. I stopped taking after exposure therapy was put on pause and thus far, no nightmares.

I also took it for nightmares and still have plenty of it in my cupboard. I stopped taking it because it dropped my blood pressure pretty low and was affecting my ability to work. Therapy has helped a lot with my nightmares and anti-anxiety meds at night have helped a lot with them too. I also stopped taking it because my new pdoc had never heard of prazosin for PTSD and she didn't want to prescribe it. But that was okay, I found other methods to get rid of the nightmares through therapy, etc.

It works pretty well, IMO.

I took Prazosin as well for my c-PTSD. For several years, actually. It was controlling my horrible nightmares. Like seesaw, however, my blood pressure became dangerously low & a blood level increased significantly (I can't recall it's name though, sorry). Anyway, I'm currently being weaned down very slowly, in hopes of bringing my kidneys back to working healthily.

The Prazosin did work well on controlling my nightmares though. I can recall nights where I'd forgotten to take my meds & having a horrible time. Maybe I'm past that right now??

Best wishes to you!

Yes I took Prazosin for a couple months.

It seemed to help me sleep but it actually made me feel really sick towards the end and I stopped taking it. It helped with anxiety and some of the tension in my body, but ultimately it didn't have the same impact that an antidepressant / antianxiolytic has.

I had a pretty bad reaction at 10mg. One night I stood up from bed and felt really sick almost immediately; nausea, headache, sweating profusely, dizziness, balance was poor, my breathing was impacted and I felt faint like I was passing out and collapsed to the floor. I had the urge to use the bathroom. It was horrible. I was told to bring myself to ER but instead decided to stop taking prazosin and these symptoms went away and haven't returned.

Thanks,
HD

I loved that pill from the day I got it. Made such a difference in my life. Had to stop taking it due to low blood pressure and chest pain but I would use it anyway again. I miss that peace that came with it.
