Hi,
I was diagnosed with PTSD two days ago (on top of my ASD dx).

The psychiatrist wants me to try EMDR and trauma based CBT along with meds.

I had been trying to get the GP to help me for 10 years but due to my verbal communication and social interaction difficulties and some bad practice it has taken this long to get the PTSD recognised.

I started the meds and hope they help the symptoms as I've been really struggling lately.

Thanks :-)

I have the accurate diagnoses now of ASD and PTSD- so that's one good thing...

Just waiting for more focused help to start.

Dear DifferentlyWired:

Mazel tov on your recent diagnoses and moving forward with treatment (also, cute Gizmo

I haven't had the opportunity to have EMDR, but found CBT and DBT to be very effective for managing symptoms/triggers. All I've read so far about EMDR is positive; if you would care to share your impressions of the treatment as you advance, I would be very interested.

I know everyone has different experiences/reactions to medications, but have found my anti-anxiety drugs to be a godsend (my insurance did not fund, and past doctors refused to prescribe, these until about a year ago).

Take care - wishing you all the best in your treatment.
Thanks for this!

Welcome to the ptsd forum. I was diagnosed about 10 years ago. I recommend doing EMDR if you can. There are a lot of people on here who have gone through it who can help you. CBT was very helpful and is very helpful to me. I hope that things begin to get easier for you.
Thanks for this!
