Several years ago I was involved in a conflict zone and experienced some very shocking things. Things I couldn't have possible been prepared for. I wake I up form nightmares nearly every night. Flashbacks aren't too common but I did react badly a few times, which i attacked my friends. I thought I was doing better, but symptoms come and go seemingly at random.

For the rest of the members, do the flashbacks and nightmares ever go away?

In my experience, there are periods of time in which they ease up or off for a little while. I have yet to witness them disappear from my life entirely. Just an hour ago I had a bad flashback and I'm glad no one's around to see or hear it. I've seen some people who haven't had a flashback or anything in years and then it just happens one day. Trauma is a hard thing to shrug off. It will take time but maybe you could go through a very long grace period without them, hell maybe even be cured of them; but it takes a lot of work and self awareness to get there.
Thanks for this!

My trauma is different than yours and happened years ago. Yet I still have nightmares. I have had multiple repeated traumas as a child and as an adult.

I believe that everyone is different though.

I take a medication called Prazosin for my nightmares. It isn't working as well as it used to so my psychiatrist recently increased the dose and I hope it works. It helps some people although of course not everyone.

My nightmares are horrible although I can't imagine what yours must be like. I am so sorry that you are going through this.

I hope things get better for you.
