I only sleep for a couple of hours a night, and wake up in the wee hours of the morning, wide awake. It is ruining my life. By the time it is time to start my day I am dog tired and to make it through a whole day with out a nap? Forget it. I wake up with so many feelings of despair, and I despair because I can't sleep. Should I look into a sleep medication?

Hello PumpkinPieHead: Sure... why not look into sleep medication. I used to take trazadone for sleep. I've tried Melatonin but it really didn't do anything for me. Would it be possible to consider looking into a sleep clinic? I've never been to one. So I don't know how useful they are.
![]() I quite often wake up in the middle of the night & can't go back to sleep. When I do, I get up & walk around-&-around the dark & quiet house... sometimes for an hour or two. It's sort-of like a walking meditation. When I do finally go back to bed, I usually fall asleep. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I used to take trazedone but the had to stop because it made my daily dissociation worse along with my nightmares. Amitriptyline (an antidepressant) made me pretty drowsy and I could sleep, but I also still had the dissociative state upon awakening and it did nothing to stop nightmares and I noticed an increase in frequency/intensity with my flashbacks. There are a lot of other options out there, though. It doesn't hurt into look into it.
