Back in our teens my husband and I were total David Lynch fans. We've seen just about everything he's made. We were both BIG TIME Twin Peaks fans.

(My husband and I were friends in high school and dated briefly in our 20s and then found and married in our 40s)

Any wayz.

Showtime is having a reboot of some kind of Twin Peaks. Maybe where it left off 20 odd years ago.

So we decided to have a Twin Peaks marathon.

Within the 20 years, I survived an attempted murder from an exboyfriend.

So now all the crime talk about Laura Palmer is TRIGGERING me and now I can't even watch the show.

What the HELL is wrong with me and my stupid brain?

I can relate. My daughter had a medical emergency this past October that initially caused Acute Stress Disorder in me, but now I'm guessing PTSD. I used to love watching the Medical TV Show "House", but cannot do it anymore. Any TV show that depicts anyone in a medical emergency triggers me. I am also triggered by the sight (not sound) of an ambulance with lights on.

I'm not going to say that you have PTSD from your traumatic experience, but it is a possibility.

I'm so sorry you cannot watch something you really want to. I have th same response to movies, books and radio. I do find that if I try to watch at a later date, I can sometimes do so.....perhaps you can try again when you are feeling more safe. I'm so sorry for what happened to you.

There is nothing wrong with you and you are not a weirdo ... Trauma does this to people, and sometimes we're able to tolerate triggers and other times not ... Based on our life experiences, we simply are where we are ... And, just because we are triggered by something this very moment doesn't mean that it will still be triggering to us a day, a week, a month, or even a year from now ... The important thing is to be patient, gentle & kind with yourself and allow time to work its healing process!

Sincerely,
Pflower!
