I've been watching parts of Tin Man and it's very different from Wizard of Oz, only bare bones similar.

You are afraid of the Judy Garland movie? I am afraid of different parts of that but not enough to "bother" me if I don't watch it.

I talked to my T about my great fear and trigger yesterday... he said... that the "wizard of oz".... is a very scary movie for young children... depends on the age on the child..

also... when I think about it.... I grew up in the time.. when TV... was new to the rural area.. black and white.. so wasn't exposed to what children today are... you know... one channel on TV.. that we could get in...

so I think that movie.. scared.. the "crap" out of me.. and it still does..

just seeing the Ads for "tin man"... just instills.. such fear... it isn't like I can help it..

maybe.. it is the DID thing.. with child alters that get terrified still..
not sure... but will be sooooooooooo glad.. when the "tin man".. is done and gone...

I can't watch the flying monkeys. The Tin Man version of things is a bit scarier because it's a bit more real and "adult". Too, everything obviously respresents something else and I don't like that "hidden" quality and having to figure it out.

The Wizard of Oz story, was actually a political satire of the day and not for children at all. Maybe reading about that will help "destroy" the story for you so it is not so scary?

I love all the good guys and bad guys in the Wizard of Oz. Well, I particularly like the bad guys and I want my own flying monkey.

The people who creep me out are Dorothy's family. A teenage girl on a farm with a bunch of male kicks? Her only friend is a dog? And then she runs away? I'm sorry but if I heard that in real life I'd assume she was being sexually abused by her uncles.

Oz, on the other hand, I would never leave. I'd move in to munchkin land and rise to leader of the lollipop guild due to my extreme height. Saturday nights would be spent as a night on the town in Emerald city.

I think the flying monkey part could be very scarey for children of certain ages.

I have to agree Cyran0, who would really want to leave Emerald City.? I would make Glinda my bff and she could teach me all of her magic. Although i would scrap that damn scarecrow. Let the monkeys have him I say.

Personally, this is probably my all time favorite movie. It was the ONE night out of the year that I was allowed to stay up late, have a friend over, and eat in the living room! My grandmother made it so special for us; she'd have Poppy drag a full size mattress out, make it up for us, and we'd take over the living room. We'd sing the songs, quote the lines, and hide behind the easy chair when the Wicked Witch came out.

I have a massive Wizard of Oz collection including a pair of Ruby Slippers in my size. I wear them on speaking engagements! (leave a trail of red glitter everywhere too!)

I guess they are my talisman in a way. If Dorothy could find her way, maybe there's hope for the rest of us.

I would get several if I were you; they're addicting. The ex-wife's sister flung hers at me first :-) accross the room and it doesn't hurt or anything, is fine for using in the living room. I like the cool mask and cape. The one I got doesn't have the finger aiming thing and doesn't scream. The screaming would get to me after awhile I think.
