I'm working with a trauma therapist and am remembering and working through some heavy incidents. I come away needing to be comforted.
Have you found anything that really helps?
Please don't suggest chocolate and red wine!
Thank you

Dear Headlander71,

I am so sorry you are in the situation you describe. Wish I knew how to help.

A psychologists taught me something that he thought would help me. At the time, I thought it was a crazy idea but I have found that it helps me when I am suffering from the effects of trauma. He suggesting I try saying, "I love you" to myself over and over again, either our loud if alone or silently. I am amazed how comforting this it.

Of course, we are all different and what works for one person might not work for someone else or might make someone else feel worse. so I cannot offer advice. I can only share what helps me.

Hopefully many people will see your post and respond with better words than my poor words. I wish you only the very best. My heart goes out to you.

The effects of trauma can be so cruel and so long lasting.

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

my comfort box/ groundding box is perfect for these times.

inside I have things that I can touch, smell, see and here.

just being around comforting objects, remembering the story of how you got them, and smelling them (having them in your hand, listening to the calming music), what ever, it really takes you back to a happier time- it does for me anyway

the other thing I do is watch the lion king (no other movie, it has to be the lion king)

after a couple bars of circle of life, I'm feeling a lot better- for you it could be a diffrent movie/ song

but simba is just sooooo adorable!

I am sorry you have so much trauma going on.

I was saying to someone earlier that I have so much trauma I can sink a ship with it

so I know what it's like
