I am a ///viet Nam Vet that got PTSD long after, while working at a rocket factory. I witnessed the aftermath of an explosion and a man burned to death. The rocket fuel cannot be extinguished. A second event was witnessing the aftermath of a plane crash with 4 people aboard. Both events I was first on scene but could do nothing. But in spite of it I still blame myself on the man that burned to death, just helplessly watching.

Seeing a person burn to death is terrible. Worse yet, with solid propellant rocket fuel, there is no putting it out. All a person can do is hope it burns out and the person survives. That though was not the case. That memory haunts my dreams and has for the last 33 years.

33 years and that experience only gets worse with time. Therapy might help, but nothing much was available and I had to pay for what little I got myself.

as a vietnam vet is there some service availabe to you? if the experience is only getting worse it sound like you need some help - I dont know much about the forces but I think they should have like an exservicemans association you could get in touch with? worth a try maybe? at the top of this forum is another forum that may be able to offer advice - its called combat ptsd - worth looking at - take care P7

I didn't realize that a similar event is also part of my package of horrors ... one time saw over 30 men burn to death in a single event. We stood there watching, couldn't do a thing. Thirty+ died that day. The flames were more brilliant than the sunshine. Because of the nature of the fire, nothing could put it out. It had to burn out on its own over a two day period. All were cremated in the fire, not even a bone was left for funerals.

do u have access to va services for the time you served in the military? it's possible you may qualify for some treatment even tho the ptsd was not service related.
my son witnessed a similar fire/explosion event while in iraq. it was the enemy but he said his "humanity to man" made him want to jump out of the humvee and help the guy anyway. said it was very upsetting to him. i was almost relieved when he brought it up cause i knew it would help for him to get it out. my vietnam vet brother took over 30 years before he even mentioned vietnam. it changed his life forever. others more so, and so many came home emotionally or physically wounded from that thankless war. all active or ex-military people need our caring and support for serving, following orders come what may, putting their lives on the line for all of us at home. ![]() ![]()
