I was really hoping that since the 10th anniversary of Dunblane is now long gone, it wouldn't appear in the news any more, but looks like I was wrong. Possibly because the 13th anniversary is coming up...anyway, I was at the supermarket today and there was an article in the front page of one of the Sunday papers talking about the "shame" of the Dunblane survivors. Apparently some people from my old school have got pages on social networking sites with things on them that the paper finds offensive.

I don't condone any of the things that are on the pages, but these kids are only about 18 years old and there are quite a few other teenagers who have pages that aren't especially "politically correct"...it feels to me like this paper is treating these kids like the way tabloids treat celebrities! And those celebrities knew what they were getting into when they became famous...none of us asked for this to happen, what business does the media have saying this sort of thing?

Apologies if what I'm about to say sounds selfish...but I hate the fact that I have to be careful every time someone asks me where I'm from, because I don't know how they'll react...the fact that the town is famous for one of the worst reasons possible...the fact that people think they can ask me about it just out of curiosity! I wish I came from somewhere "normal"...

(((((((( Rio )))))))))

Unfortuately what happened at Dunblane will always be in the news. It was a traumatic and horrendous incident which affected many peoples lives.

I haven't read the news but I know the media will try to make a story even more of a 'story' and twist things to increase their readership. Most people will read with compassion for those traumatized I hope.

I wish you hadn't been through the trauma also.

Good point. I'd never read that particular paper before so I don't know if it does articles like that often. Definitely won't be reading it again.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but....

Not again.

(And I really need to keep myself away from news websites. )
