I share a very small office with a coworker. The problem is that she likes to have the door open and I like to have the door closed. (technically the rules are that for fire safety the door should be closed but no one follows those rules.) While she can see out the door from where she sits, I can't because my back is directly to the door. It ends up making me really anxious all day and makes me really hyper aware because I can't see who is approaching me. I have talked to my T about this before and we have discussed the liklihood that anyone would actually attack me at work, (which is slim). However, lately I have been feeling really bad and this just ends up making my whole day at work totally and completely awful. I have asked her to compromise and we have the door only open a little bit, but right now even that small amount is too much. I end up being agitated and annoyed anytime she is there because she opens the door when she arrives even though I have it closed. I just needed to vent.

Thanks for the suggestion. We can't change desks as hers is built into the wall and I have to have my desk as it was changed to accommodate a computer (before it had a computer and was a writing desk.) I just have been really agitated this week and so something that usually is fine is bothering me (along with a lot of other things I am fine with like riding the subway.)

I will have to see about a mirror. I don't know if i would be able to have the hospital put one up without saying why (which I wouldn't want to). In general I don't know what exactly is making me triggery right now except that this is the same time of year I was attacked and that always seems to make it worse and I go through a period of depression at this time too. Thanks for the suggestions.
Thanks for this!

I'm sure it's because of the time of year. try talking to your supervisor again. be very blunt about it. Hopefully the feelings will pass in a few weeks but you need to be comfortable at work in order to be productive and there is no reason they shouldn't be able to work something out with you, rearrange office, new office, turn desk. Also maybe explain to your coworker why you are jumpy and see if she can have sympathy for that during this time of year. ~hugs~

yep anniversaries suck - get really depressed too wiht the mirror I didnt mean a big one - just a small one you could buy and stand on the desk - thats what I did once when I worked in an office that had me placed with my back to the door - its also good feng shui (not sure if I spelt that right)

I have a mirror that clips on my monitor screen. They sell mirrors just for your monitor. It is perfect, you can see everything, behind you. I also have a picture on my wall. I can see refections, it's not a mirror but it covers a different angle. I startle very easily and catch things out of the corner of my eye, it's embarrassing at work but this helps.
