Just been prescribed a small dose (0.5mg) of Risperidone. Last night I took one tablet and it basically knocked me out and put me into a very deep sleep. I woke up with an extreme headache. My mood hasnt REALLY been changed and yeah. BUt I just wanted to know if feeling very dopy and having a bad headache following a pill of Risperidone is normal. And if it should begin to work almost immediately (as it did).

It will take a few weeks for the side-effects to fade, like the headaches and hangover feelings. It's normal, in my experience, for anti-psychotic medications used for sleeping problems, (assuming that's why you're taking it), to have immediate effects on your sleep. Again, after a few weeks you should adjust to it.

I take risperidone 3mg, and it has never made me sleepy, but yeah when I first went on it, I had a huge headache and lots of other nasty side effects, but they went a way after a few days. And yes it does seem to take effect a lot faster than some other psych drugs that need time to have any effect. I remember when I went from 2 to 3 mg (a relatively big jump) I had huge side effects, I was really dizzy, had a headache, and felt like my brain was stuffed with cotton wool, but at the same time, I felt emotionally like I was 20 again before my MH problems started. It's been a real life saver med for me.
