I take 15mg abilify. I haven't had any problems with it.

i was on abilify for a year, used primarily to help my depression.

a lot of people report that it actually peps them up (too much), so i am a bit confused about why this is being given to you to help calm you down. i found abilify gave me a lot of extra energy (exactly what i needed), but i still took it in the morning because otherwise it wouldn't wear off by night.

i used zyprexa (another anti-psychotic) for help when i am going through a rough patch of ptsd. 2.5mg is enough to help me calm down enough to sleep, but also remain functioning the next day.

I use to take Abilify. I took it for bipolar disorder. I had a reaction called akathisia or inner restlessness. It was very bad. I couldn't sit still for anything. Even the medications they use to counteract the side effect (Cogentin and Artane) didn't help so I had to ultimately discontinue Abilify.

I wish you best of luck with Abilify.

Hello. Yes, I take 2.5 mg along with Lamictal. The Abilify is helpful for depression, motivation, and anxiety. It is not calming (or sedating) in the same way as, say, xanax. But it does help my anxiety. Some people feel agitated on it, but I do not. There's really only one way to know how you will react to it.

If you try it and experience insomnia but like it otherwise, hang in there with it. The insomnia resolved for me in about 8 weeks.

Thanks for this!

I was on and off of abilify for a couple of years. I always gained weight on it that I could not work off. Last time I gained 30lbs and I just couldn't keep taking it because I felt worse feeling fat and I was more self concious so I didn't get to appreciate any benefits. Everyone is different, good luck to you

Thanks for the responses. I'm taking only 5mg with 20mg of lexapro. I still take xanax for the panic attacks.

I'm giving it a month.

We'll see if it works.

I'm taking 20 mg with a combination of other psych meds, two anti-d's and a mood stabilizer. And I've found abilify to work wonders for me. Both in helping lift the depression and in taking away the hallucinations (i.e. the big dose)

Love and Hugs,
Tara

I just started Abilify with my Zoloft 3 weeks ago. It kept me awake for almost all night the first 2 nights!! Only slept 3 hours each night. My pdoc put me on Trazodone to help me sleep and so far that's working pretty well.

The only other side effect I'm having is that I get stomach pains if I don't take it with food, and even then I sometimes get pain. But it doesn't last long. And it's helping so well that I don't mind the side effects.

My pdoc started me on it for my major psychotic depression and ptsd.

I have been on Abilify 30mg every day for the past 4 or 5 years. I find it to be a stimulating type of anti-psychotic. My psychiatrist put me on it for schizoaffective disorder. I thought I was being abducted by aliens. Seriously. Those thoughts are long gone now and I stay on it so they won't come back. I like the medication.
