I'm just wondering if anyone has taking nortriptyline before. Its a Tricyclic antidrepressant (TCA).
My neurologist perscribed it for Chronic leg pain that I have been having not for depression. Anyways, she started me off on a schedule of 10mg the first 3 nights, 20mg the next three, 30mg for three and then 40mg for three and to hold there unless its not working for the pain and we can increase it. I started on the 10 mg three nights ago. She told me to take it at bedtime as it will make me tired. The first night I took it I was fine, the second night I woke up to my heart racing and fluttering. I figured its because its a new med but I was up all night that night, laid in bed trying to sleep but my heart kept racing off and on, I slept maybe two hours all night. I tried the med again last night for the 3rd night and the same thing happend. This time I got three hours off sleep all night. I have no idea what it going. Has anyone had a bad reaction like that to Nortriptyline or is it normal to have that, I know that it increases your norepinephrine which could explain the heart racing. I'm just worried about uping the dose since my heart is acting up from it.

Hmm...my doc said to take it during the day as it should give me energy! You might try that instead...
A heart racing effect could be trouble. I think you should call your doc and let her know. I have not had any problem like that with nortriptyline. |

Thank you. I called my doctor the day after I posted this because that night about an hour and a half after I took the med my heart started going crazy again off an on. I also started getting pain shooting up my right up. Her office called me back and told me to stop taking the med immediately. I have been fine since.
