has anyone's doc prescribed the thyroid med cytomel as a booster to your regular anti-depressant? mine is considering trying this, and from my online research it looks like it might be worth trying but i'm still looking for more personal opinions.
i take 450 mg wellbutrin xl for depression and klonopin for panic disorder. the klonopin has worked really well for that problem, and for a long time, but on the wellbutrin i still get some sinking episodes. and yah, i'm in one now! (over the years i've tried other anti-depressants, but the SSRIs don't work for me and wellbutrin seems best even though it's definitely not perfect.) for three years i also took 25 mg seroquel to help with my insomnia, and as a nice side benefit it definitely boosted the wellbutrin. i felt great on it -- slept well consistently for the first time in my life and had a general feeling of well-being, peacefulness, balance, that nothing else seems to give me. however, i did gain some weight on seroquel and my doc became nervous about the possibility of later developing "metabolic syndrome x" (diabetes etc.), and took me off it after three years. that was two years ago and i've pretty much struggled ever since. no more good sleep, and every few months i start slipping into that black hole. elavil worked as a replacement for the seroquel for a while, then not. so now i've been on no booster for almost a year, mourning the loss of the seroquel. the cytomel apparently has few to no side effects and a good record so far, at a low dose, of helping as an anti-depressant booster even if your thyroid is normal. has anyone tried this or had any experiences similar to mine with seroquel? if so i'd appreciate hearing about them. thank you. |
