My pdoc is putting me on Geodon, and I'm a little nervous about it. My OCD is severe, but I figured I'd be put on high dosages (increasing gradually over time) of an SSRI (or more than one), but now he's putting me on an antipsychotic, and I'm a little nervous about the side effects and possible risks.

He told me it could make me nervous at first, but to keep taking it and get to the high dosage, and it will pass. I'm hoping it doesn't make me too nervous, though.

He's starting me on 40mg 4x the first day, then increase it to 80mg 4x the second day, 120mg 4x on Day 3, and 160mg 4x on Day 4. I've never heard of increasing a med so quickly. Has anyone done this?

Does anyone have any experience with Geodon? Thanks!

I have no experience with Geodon, but please keep me updated on how it goes. I'm on Zoloft for OCD and Panic Disorder. I love what I'm on right now, but I would like to know what other options are out there and how they have worked for others for future reference.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Also, do you know if there are any studies on Geodon concerning pregnancy (another thing I've been thinking/worrying about lately)?

Thanks

I am on Geodon and the side effects haven't been bad this time around, the first time that I was on it, it made me hyperactive but this time I haven't really noticed any side effects at all. I am on a lower dose I take 80 mg twice a day for me it doesn't seem to be helping much so they will probably be upping my dose again soon. Let us know how it goes.

Ickydog2006- There is an information page on this site about geodon and I believe it says that using the med during pregnancy is not advised. Here is a link http://forums.psychcentral.com/revie...101/si/bipolar

I'm sorry to say (I know this won't help any) when I was on Geodon a long time ago (I think around 2 years ago) it increased my heart rate to 130-150 bpm resting and caused uncontrollable arm movements. I am now off Geodon. I was looking forward to being put of Geodon because it doesn't cause weight gain like 99% of the other anti psychotics and anti depressants. I have been on so many meds over the past 3 years that it isn't even funny. I have autism and schizoaffective disorder bipolar type.

I'm sorry...I was on Geodon a few years ago and had to stop taking it due to side effects. I felt an electric zap feeling in my head and would go from hyperactive to asleep in two seconds flat. Not good if you're trying to work a job.... I hope you don't experience any bad effects and that it helps.

Thanks, everyone. I'm still nervous about it, but the side effects some of you described are what I've read.

I have mentioned my heart pacing problem to my pdoc, and I worry how the Geodon might affect it. I forgot to ask him if he received my records from my last pdoc (over four months ago), which has an EKG with it that should give him more info. I might call later to see.

ickydog, I think I read the same thing gimmeice said concerning pregnancy on the Wikipedia site for Geodon. I don't rely on Wikipedia for factual information, since anyone can change it, but I did read other sites as well, and they may have mentioned pregnancy; it's just that I skimmed most sites and Wikipedia is the only one I remember for sure that mentioned pregnancy.

Maven, I refused to take it because my uncle has schizophrenia and thy gave it to him and it caused stomach pain and facial ticks. No two people are the same though, what might hurt me, might help you.

They gave me Geodon after I felt like Abilify wasn't working .. OMG I grinded my teeth to the point of tears and I had to get a shot in my butt for pain and tension in my jaw. I felt SO good on it ... But the side effects nearly killed me!

I have been taking Geodon for about 4 years. It took me probably 2 or 3 days to get used to it, but my doctor encouraged me to hang in there. I should say I take 40 mg at night before I go to bed. It works extremely well for me, and I would be very sick without it. Of course, drugs work differently on different people, but Geodon works well for me!
