I currently take Geodon, Lexapro, Provigil, and Mirtazipine and recently lost my prescription health insurance. These medications are expensive, and I was wondering if anyone knew of an agency or business that helps with mental health medications.

Hello ellen, it's nice to meet you, welcome to psych central.
I did a search on google and found this site PfizerHelpfulAnswers.com I don't know if you will be able to find help with all the meds but Geodon is on there and I know that is expensive.

If you have any questions feel free to private message me or any community liaison or moderator, here is a link to a list of forum leaders.

If you are low income, there are programs with most of the major drug companies that will give you a 3 month supply (then you have to reapply to make sure your circumstances are the same) for free. The only costs you pay are the admin costs like the bottle, the label, and whoever counts it and fills it. Ask your p-doc if they are aware of these programs. I get it done through my school's health center. You just get a voucher and can take it to any pharmacy and they give you a supply in the mean time while the drug maker gets your request and fills the 90 day order. Then you can pick it up either from your p-doc or at the pharmacy, depending on where it's sent.

I usually only pay $5 per prescription admin costs, regardless of whether it's a 30-90 day supply. But the drugs themselves are free (Wellbutrin, Seroquel, and now Lamictal, but I've had this program with citalopram, fluoxetine, Trazodone, lorazepam, Effexor, etc.).

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, I got Lexapro through that program too. Once the 90 day supply arrives, you'll have the name brand drug, not the generic, but sometimes pharmacies give you the generic in the mean time even though they're not supposed to.

Go to the NAMI website for info on prescription drug assistance programs for many psychoactive drugs. This page has the phone numbers for the programs at all the major pharma companies:

Ellen,

I don't have prescription health insurance either and I buy all my meds from Canada. it's the cheapest I can find. The website I use is northwestpharmacy.com they have been good to me though sometimes it takes up to three weeks for your meds to come.

Love and Hugs,
Tara

Along with the NAMI info, this site also has details about low or no cost prescriptions. Different drug companies have different requirements, but they are actually quite helpful.

www.needymeds.com
it's basically a gateway to the drug companies but provides other info about free clinics, etc..

Best wishes,

Catherin
