I am taking 15 mg of Lexapro. I posted before that I went up in dose from 10 (almost) 2 wks ago and I have a feeling that I will go up again to 20. But this morning I made a weird mistake. I was cutting the pill and one half flew off. I looked around and didnt see it on the floor and vacuumed so my 2 yo didnt get ahold of it. Then I took the 1 1/2 pills for my 15 mg. Then I took some vitamins and while I was taking the vitamins I saw 1/2 pill stuck to my finger and figured it was the 1/2 that I just thought I took and swallowed it. Then, I realized it was the half I lost and now I had ended up taking 20 mg for the day.

I figured Id know soon enough if I took 20 mg b/c I went back to sleep this morning with my daughter and I was VERY well-rested. So...if I get tired and dizzy it can only be the lexapro. Well...sure enough....I was dizzy and I couldnt keep my eyes open- while driving again. I wanted to go up to 20 anyway and I called my PNP. She called me back but my daughter didnt switch the call waiting (I was real upset with her!). So I didnt get to talk to her. I probably will tomorrow.

I dont know if I should take 20mg in the morning. If it would be like going down in dose if I take 15mg or should I just take the 20mg. I will be going up to 20 anyway. Im still feeling depressed on 15 though it is somewhat better.

Any thoughts?
Thanks so much-

If I were you, I would stay on 15 mg until my Dr. told me to increase the dosage. You're going to run out of medication before your refill is due if you don't and it sounds like you shouldn't be driving or doing much at all until you get used to the current dosage.

Thanks January. She did call and said I could take 20. It isnt much of a difference between 15 and 20. And I took 20 today and was only a little tired even on less sleep.

Do you get used to increases in doses faster when youve been on it for a little while?

To be honest, I didn't have any problems with increasing my doses so I don't know. I hope you have wonderful results using it.

Ive been on 20 now for a few days and I definitely DO get tired and dizzy in the same way that I did before when I went up. Im expecting it to go away in a week or so.

I wish my depression would ease up more than it has. What dose are you on January? I hope I dont have to go up any further.

I take 20 mg and have had good results with it. I take some other meds for anxiety and to help me sleep, so I'm sure they help, too.

Give yourself some time for it to really get in your system and start working. It takes a few weeks. I know it's really frustrating to wait for meds to kick in and start working right.

(if ok)

Its OK

I guess I have to be patient. It is frustrating- so the 20 will most likely feel better than the 15 has been? I do feel generally better, but maybe the 20 will lift the heaviness I sometimes feel.

Thanks for your replies to me, I really appreciate it

You are so welcome for any help I have offered.

The 20 mg should make you feel better than the 15 mg dosage. Also, your pdoc might want to add something else to it at some point. It is a waiting game sometimes to see how a med is going to effect you and if it alone is enough. It's really hard to be patient through the process. I know! I have faith in you though and I know you can do it.

Greets January,

Forgive me for barging in on this conversation but I am almost desperate. I have Major depression and panic & anxiety. My GP & Pdoc dont believe in medication. Vis I am going insane and don't want to live (though I am aware that this is the panic anxiety & depression so won't act on any thoughts).

Reading about lexapro makes me want to ask my doc to try it, but if you could tell me what else you take I can ask if the combination might work for me. I have agoraphobia so only go out when I can't avoid it, but it sounds that your combo may help all of my symptoms of panic anxiety depression, sleeplessness etc. If you don't want to post them could you pm me please?

Bless,
Rhiannon

You are most welcome to join our conversation! Welcome to PC. We're glad to have you.

I also have Panic Disorder and know first hand how horrible it is to be trapped inside my home. I must tell you that since my wonderful pdoc get me started on my meds, (it took a while to get the right combo), I have a life now. Don't give up. There is hope!

I am going to pm you with my list of meds and if anyone else would like to know, just pm me. I highly suggest you find a new pdoc and Dr. Many of our problems are caused by chemical imbalances. It takes medicine to fix it and therapy to help us change our thinking patterns.

Hi Riannon (sorry if I misspelled that!) The lexapro has helped me a lot. I dont take anything else tho but I think I need something for sleep since I seem to sleep too lightly.

You know, I didnt post it separately, but I made another weird lexapro mistake. I couldnt remember if I took my med in the am so I took 20 mg in the afternoon today. I was REALLY dizzy and tired. I wonder if I took a second dose? I will never know, but I am hoping this wont do any harm. I plan on being so much more careful.

How do yo keep track of your meds? And if you took everything? Weird question, but I keep messing up.

Go buy one of the medicine holders that keeps meds in it for a week. Sit down one day a week and sort your meds out for each day. You just take your meds out of it each day and you won't get confused about it.

That is a really great idea.

I noticed something yesterday when I didnt get dizzy and tired when I fortgot to take the lexipro. When I took it later that day, I then got REAL tired and dizzy. Maybe Im not used to the 20 mg enough. But I think instead of taking it in the morning like my PNP told me to do, I will take it at night. I was sleepy and slept a little better last night. And my day was fine up until I took the med.

Its now about 3:45 and I havent taken it yet today. I am thinking I'll take it about 9 or so.

My PNP said to take it in the morning so it doesnt upset my sleep, but it seems to upset my sleep if I take it in the morning. Weird. When do you take your lexipro?
Thanks-

Lexapro doesn't make me sleepy at all, so it doesn't make a difference if I take it morning, noon or night. However, in your case, I would take it at night and get a good night's rest. I think the sleepiness it causes you will wear off, but it sounds a lot safer for you to take it at night so you can be bright eyed during the day. I honestly don't know why the Dr said Lexapro can cause problems sleeping.

I want to be comlpiant with my lexipro. I havent taken it yet today and I am not sleepy. Maybe I will take it just before I go to bed. I took it at 9 last night and couldnt get up this morning and was real dizzy whe I got up. My h had to take over the kids morning routine. I slept some more and was then fine after sleeping another 2 hours. But I was late doing the million things I had to do today! Anyway, Im going to try to take it late and sleep in saturday morning. I want to get used to this drug faster!

January- did you ever experience sleepiness/dizziness with lexipro? If so, how long did it take for it to go away?

Lexapro didn't make me sleepy, but I take so many meds that one more just didn't make a difference. I wish so much I could help you better, but I have to take trazadone to sleep.
