Today I have to ask my med.s doctor to try an additional anti-depressant medication...
I have no motivation
I can not keep my eyes open through out the day
I can sleep for hours
and all of this is NOT me

Any suggestions on 60mg Prozac

Sorry I can't help with the prozac, I've never taken it. Please do try other medications. You will find the right one for you. I can tell by your post that no this is not you. You got friends here starlite and let us support you. I will stand by your side and give lots of as you need them. Take care of yourself and write more here if it helps you.

But don't give up on other meds, it takes a few tries but you can do it

added wellbutrin 2 x's day

But also - I Got to tell him EVERYTHING I've been which has NOT all been good!

Hopefully having a higher dose will help you out. I know you feel like crap right now, but it won't last forever Telling him what's going on may help you out a lot, and might not be as bad or difficult as you think. ((((starlite*111))))

Hon, it takes time to come up with the right medication and medication combination's together. I have gone through a few. I's HARD!! Hang in there! You are headed in the right direction. Mental health issues are never easy to deal with! But from someone who came out the other end, it may not be the quickest way there, but the more sanest is a good way to do it.

It's going to be hard to express all that has happened to you and how your brain thinks, but the more honest with the doctor you are, the easier you are making it to have them help you!

Prozac was the original SSRI. It pretty much acts only on seratonin. A 60mg dose is about as high as the docs will prescribe it. Any higher and it's not effective, meaning you can take more but it doesn't benefit you more. There is something called the Prozac Poopout. I used to take Prozac (before we realized I was bipolar). Prozac eventually quit working for me, period. It is well known that after a while, Prozac becomes ineffective and another antidepressant has to be substituted for it. At least, that used to be the thinking.

Not too many docs prescribe it anymore, anyway. The last word I had was, there are better ones out there so let's just prescribe a better one to begin with. Since you were responding to Prozac, they probably kept you on it as long as you were responding. My guess is that you might now need another med.

Sorry you are feeling so poorly. I hope you get some new meds and feel better soon.

They put me on Prozac with my first daughter because what ever I was on at the time (it was nearly a decade ago, I am lucky to remember last week!) was not ok to be on pregnant. When I got pregnant with the youngest, I stayed on Paxil. I had a long talk with my psych dr, and while there hadn't been any studies (how do you ask a woman to do a study with a drug that could harm her child while pregnant?!?!?) it was reported that most children of women who decided to stay on it hadn't had anything bad happen.

Prozac put me to sleep, but I gather that that is not the typical response. I agree with January, you have to keep trying to find the right combination of medications. I certainly can't vouch for my own medication combination, as I, too, am depleted of motivation and can sleep most of the time. However, I have fear of asking for a change, as the doctor has tried me on every antidepressant and thinks ECT should be the next step. Of this, I am petrified. I am not sure about this, but I think that Effexor and Cymbalta are supposed to be more energizing, due to the medications' impact on the transmitter norepinephine [as well as the traditional antidepressant impact on Serotonin]. Cymbalta also impacts the neurotransmitter Dopamine, for whatever that is worth! Hoping for a Good Antidepressant Response ~ billieJ
