My PNP increased my dose to 15 (from 10mg) and once again I am sleepy and dizzy at times (not continuously). It went away before- will it go away again? I am on a higher does now but am hoping for the best.
Thanks-

I believe it will wear off again. Just give it a little time. I hope you feel better soon.

That's great news. Just be careful driving until you get fully used to it.

Kiya- how long do you imagine it took to adjust? Are you on it a long time?

I posted somewhere on this board that I am now on 20 and it makes me really dizzy about 1 or 2 hours after I take it. So, Im trying to take it at bedtime now. It worked well last night. But I slept in this morning. I dont know what will happen with that if I have to get up early.

I am REALLY sensitive to meds... i was only taking 2.5mgs at a time, 3 times a day, and having terrible effects. I was trying to get off it, but was already having withdrawals after like a week. I went a full day without it and thought my head would split open. I'm not sure how long it took, but I am still getting heart palpitations.... Not long tho, I think i've been on it -oh i know, i just got it refilled, so a month.

Bluemoon, maybe you could take 10 mg twice a day instead of 20 mg all at once. Maybe then you wouldn't have the dizziness or the morning sleepiness. Some meds can be cut in half for that reason, but some meds cannot because they have a special time release formulation that necessitates your taking all at once and not cutting the pill. You could check with your prescriber to see if this is possible. A lot of times anything that is "slow release" or "extended release" cannot be cut.

Thats a good idea. A really good idea. I take 2 10 mg pills so cutting it wont be a problem.

I am taking 20 at night and it seems to be OK but it does make my sleep weird. Im convinced of it now. I sleep lighter than I would like. I am not sure if I would like a drug for sleep since my little ones often sleep in the bed with me and it could be dangerous for me to sleep too deeply.

I am wondering if there might be a something that could help me sleep but not make me sleep so deeply that I can wake up for my small children at night.

I also got the heart palpitations thing and I suspected it was from the lexipro. And it can give me a headache too. I guess those are side effects. I had gone off of zoloft (a long time ago) but I will never forget the horrible headache I had for 2 solid weeks.

So you are now continuing with lexipro? Im on 20 now and I feel so much better. I am not crying all the time and I dont feel suicidal nearly as much as I used to and I dont cut as much as I used to. The issue was always these things like feeling sui and depression and now I am able to talk about what is underneath it. And I feel good enough to think about leaving my t for a better t. So, I have only good things to say about lexipro, except for the dizzy and sleep thing. Ive been on it since the end/mid august.

Aaaah ROFL, my brain. This is your brain on p-drugs. All this time I was talking about Buspirone. *sigh*. Not Lex. I get the palpitations from bus.
No, I am not on lex. anymore - waaaaaaaaaay to expensive. Doc had been giving me samples the whole time, when she ran out i had to move to citalopram (generic celexa) and am still on that. We just tried to take me off that to do yet another med change and I totally depressively crashed and got sui. sooooooooooo back on citalo. 20mg, and still the bus. 13ish megs. and NOW lamactil as well... titrating up.... and i am not sure if i have effects from that or not.... I may check in with pnurse before the weekend since I am supposed to go from 25 mgs to 50mg.
sorry for the wrong info.
I can say that pnurse said Lexapro is a better drug than citalopram/ celexa. Which i think says a lot.
On lexapro, i did cut less, was sui less... but i had no idea how "numb" i was until i went on its "cousin".... i lost the numb, and anxiety went through the roof. same for my friend. in fact, she was such a walking disaster, that for her wedding, i gave her the week's worth of lexapro i re-found after putting some aside in my disaster kit. she said it was the only thing that got her through the wedding, the honeymoon, and the first day of school (teacher).

Youre funny Kiya! I have really been thinking it is the lexipro had given me the palpitations. But I dont have it anymore. My insurance is covering the lexipro, I am very glad. I couldnt pay for an expensive drug.

I remember you posting about that. It is way too hard to go down in dose to get off. I cant do it. When I decided to go back on meds I had to make a commitment to stay on. I also dont do well AT ALL going off. So, your on generic celexa (citalopram) and still on bus? Do you still get the palpitations? I get palpitations at the drop of a hat, so maybe the combination of not eating enough and lexi?

I wonder why and what is better?

I can believe that.
About anxiety, I dont feel anxious, but even tho lexi makes me sleepy, it also has a hyper effect. Like a hyper-ness sometimes and after I take the pill at night I get sleepy.
I dont think I feel numb, unless I am too numb to notice. I am serious about that. I can see where you would get numb-ish from this. I had 1 or 2 suicidal days and it lasted a short period of time. Not on and on and endless crying. I am staying on this does b/c I dont want to be numb-er.

Anyway, dont worry about the mix-up.....it was a sweet mix-up....

P Nurse said Lexapro was a better, improved, and more pure form of the drug than the original Celexa.

i do understand about being "too numb to know you're numb". that was me too. i went from severely depressed to numb and never noticed a change, other than i wasn't constantly trying to sui. I remember, too, when I gave the rest to my friend for her wedding, i thought something was wrong with her because she wasn't in that (daily) flipping out anxious state (of hers) which is also normal for weddings (LOL). when i asked her if she was really ok, she was dead serious when she answered yes - and said... "Do you know why I am so ok?" noooooooo "because some little birdy found some lexapro and gave it to me" oh!

[editing to say this] I want to be clear that I don't typically go around handing out my old meds to people. This was a case of my friend already having been on it - couldn't afford it (hmmm sounds familiar), Kaiser wouldn't pay for it unless she went on 2 other drugs unsuccessfully first (how lame) and then they *might* consider it, but it had to be 3 months on each drug first. Meanwhile she was not functioning well for her upcomming wedding, i thought she might blow a gasket, and i happened to have just found a pack that i now couldn't use. so... i didn't see it as a terrible thing to give her what works when her ins refused her.

I like this lexipro. For me it feels lately like a legal high! If I get depressed it doesnt last long.

I think it probably was a good idea to give it to your friend. Since she had taken it before, maybe that is why a few doses worked so well for her? She didnt have to get used to it? Anyway, glad she didnt blow any gaskets.......

That is awful that Kaiser wouldnt pay for the drug. It makes me so sad that this happens. That a good drug is available but you cant take it b/c your insurance wont cover it. Is there any way for you to go through your doc or someone to get lexipro covered? Or you didnt want to go back on lexipro? I am lucky in that my insurance is covering it. But I have been on various things that my insurance wouldnt cover at first and then I fought it and got it covered. Can yo do that? Or no?

Good luck. believe in it. That's the most important thing. Make sure you doctor believes in it too. These mental energies are so much more powerful than the medicines
