So I started taking Navane about 7 weeks ago and found that it causes all sorts of parkinsonian muscle twitching and stiffness. My pdoc gave me benztropine to combat that and it makes me like catatonically tired;falling asleep while talking tired.

Navane is the 5 or 6th antipsychotic I've tried in the last 7 months. I don't want to keep trying these things and never get what I need or else have to deal with horrible side effects.

Has anyone else ever taken Navane or benztropine (cogentin)?

I had to take Cogentin because of the muscle problems that Abilify created for me.

Does it make you really sleepy?

It seems like that and the navane are making me really, really sleepy. Yesterday I was almost non-functioning I was so tired all day. I went to bed before 9 oclock which is unheard of for me. Ug. I'd rather be anything than sleepy all day.

I'm so frustrated with this roller coaster of antipsychotics I've been on this past 9 months or so.

1st was Abilify, I cannot remember what side effect I had, but it was enough to make me have to quit taking it. Then I tried that migraine med (cannot think of the name), it actually worked well, but I couldn't afford it, then I took tegretol, it made me a zombie and I lost my ability to speak coherently, tried geodon-that was a nightmare-I literally couldn't wake up for hours on end and when I was awake I was at constant risk of falling back asleep, I couldn't speak because something was wrong with my tongue, oh it was awful, then I took Invega, which seemed to work at 1st but when I got up to a therapeutic dosage, zonked me out again-like couldn't drive tired, now finally to navane, when I first started, before I got to a therapeutic level, it was fine, now that I'm taking it 3 times a day I'm plagued with weird muscle twitches and movements and now terrible sleepiness. I don't know what to do. I feel like I have to stop taking it again because I have to drive to pick my son up from school and its dangerous when I'm so tired like this. But I hate the idea of calling my pdoc and telling him I can't handle this one either. Surely he's going to give up on me sometime soon. I cannot go on like this with my meds all screwy. Wahhhhhhh. I seriously just want to cry and cry. I'm so frustrated right now.

I would be concerned about the muscle twitching. Tartive Dyskenesia is a pretty serious side effect and can become a permanent problem.

Well, I didn't take them this morning. I feel like I am failing at this because I cannot find an antipsychotic that works for me. Man, I'm going to cry, I'm so tired of this.

I'm going to ask him to put me back on topomax perna, did you read my mind or something? That's freaky. I just remembered that worked well for me like half an hour ago...(insert twilight zone theme here)

Dang, I just printed it out and read it, the offer expired on Dec 31st 2009! I'm still going to ask my pdoc for it.
