I finally went to a psych doc who increased my effexor, apparently my dose was not therapeutic. My question is .....does it cause sedation? All I want to do is sleep! I was on this years ago and do not remember being soooo sleepy. Anyone else experience this? Also, my doc suggested changing my med, but I have tried to get off the effexor over the past couple of years with the WORST WITHDRAWAL I have ever had. I don't think I will ever be able to go off of it, so it's gotta work. Thanks for your input......Tonih

It's not unusual to feel a sedating effect when you increase a med. It will probably get better as you get used to it.

I took it in the morning, was strung out all day and all night too. So yeah, it wasn't sedating for me! I was eventually put on mirtazapine instead.

I'm on it and don't find it at all sedating. But everyone responds to meds differently. If it makes you sleepy take it at night.

I don't get sedating effects from my Effexor, but I have heard about other people who have. I have also heard about other people taking it at night to help with this side effect. When you have tried to get off it before have you reduced your dose really slowly (and I mean really slowly)? A lot of people have trouble getting off of it. I have problems if I miss a dose. Good luck.
