I am currently on Celexa for depression. I am having dental surgery Wendsday. The dentist always puts me on hydrocodone. I am worried if it will interact with my Celexa. I usually take 2 pain meds after the surgery then one every 3-4 hours as needed after that. I can't take motrin of ibprophron becuase of an allergy to NSAIDS and asprin. If I can't take pain meds with my Celexa then I'm not going to go to the dentist. I hate mouth pain. Anyone kow if there's an interation between those two?

Using an interaction checker I didn't find any major drug-drug interactions, but here's what it did find:

hydrocodone ⇔ citalopram

Applies to: hydrocodone, Celexa (citalopram)

MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.

MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

hope that helps.

Your pharmacist is a good place to go for these kind of questions.
